A tongue in cheek disclaimer…

At some point someone is going to stumble across this site, read what I am doing in my D&D campaign setting and start pointing out that my campaign is taking massive liberties with Forgotten Realms lore and the Sword Coast in particular… 🙂

Yes.

Yes I am…

I bought the 4th edition DM guide to the Realms because it was cheap, had lots of maps and would save me the trouble of laying out geography and naming things.
I’ll be using placenames, snippets of lore from the thumbnails in the sourcebook but definitely won’t be making use of the 20+ years worth of minutiae from every Realms splat, module or novel. That one book will be a framework onto which I will bolt on whatever stuff I come up with or nick from elsewhere.
So…
No Elminster.
No dual wielding angst-ridden drow with a panther.
No masked lords of Waterdeep.

In modern terms I suppose I could be said to be “Doing a bit of a JJ Abrams” with Faerun.

As the campaign has gone on, I have found myself altering the map and geography of the ‘canon’ Forgotten Realms more and more… So, yes… I know the Mere of Dead Men has moved 🙂
